One of the questions I hear most often from newly engaged couples is: "Where should we do our engagement shoot?" And honestly, it is one of my favourite things to help figure out — because the Waterloo Region is absolutely full of beautiful, varied locations that most people never even think of.
Whether you want lush greenery, wide golden fields, urban textures, peaceful waterfront light, or something tucked away and a little bit wild, there is a perfect spot here for every couple. Here are some of my favourites across Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, and the surrounding area.
Riverside Park, Cambridge
Riverside Park is a genuine gem for engagement photos. With its mature trees arching overhead, open grassy clearings, and the Speed River winding quietly through the grounds, it offers incredible variety all within a single location. You can move between a dappled forest feel, an open romantic stretch of grass, and a riverbank all in one session.
It is especially stunning in autumn when the leaves turn to amber and gold, but the soft greens of spring and the warm grasses of late summer are equally beautiful. If you are a Cambridge couple and you are not sure where to start — start here.
Huron Natural Area, Kitchener
If you want to feel completely away from the city without actually driving far, Huron Natural Area in Kitchener delivers that feeling perfectly. The wooded trails, open meadows and patches of wildflowers create a tucked-away, almost magical atmosphere. It feels private and peaceful in a way that very few locations near the city do.
This spot is especially beautiful in the late afternoon when golden light filters through the tree canopy. I love shooting here at golden hour — the images feel warm and almost cinematic.
Victoria Park, Kitchener
Right in the heart of Kitchener, Victoria Park is a classic location with very good reason. The ornamental lake, the graceful bridge, the mature weeping trees along the water's edge — it all comes together in a setting that feels both timeless and a little bit magical. It is polished without feeling stiff, which makes it perfect for couples who want something refined but still natural.
Spring is particularly lovely here when the cherry blossoms and flowering trees are in bloom. If you have been dreaming of those soft pink-and-white blossom images, plan your session for late April.
Elora Gorge (Just Outside the Region)
Technically this one sits just outside the Waterloo Region, but it is only about 30 minutes from Cambridge and it is breathtaking enough to be worth every minute of the drive. The dramatic limestone cliffs, the Grand River running through the gorge below, and the wild, rugged atmosphere create images that look completely unlike anything you would find in a park. If you are after something bold and one-of-a-kind, Elora is your answer.
Your Own Neighbourhood
Here is my most personal suggestion — and the one I feel most strongly about: somewhere that actually means something to you. The coffee shop where you had your first date. The park where he proposed. The street you walk together on Sunday mornings. Your own backyard where everything started.
Meaningful places create meaningful images. When a location holds a real piece of your story, the connection in your photographs is different — it is deeper, more relaxed, and entirely yours. Those are always the images couples treasure most, long after the novelty of a "pretty spot" has faded.
Engagement sessions with Legacy Lens Photography are 60 to 90 minutes and include two nearby locations. Travel within the Waterloo Region is included. And the engagement shoot is included in every wedding package — it is also the perfect chance to get comfortable in front of the camera before your big day.
